About

I’m a husband and a father who has lived almost my entire life in Maryland. I grew up with a brother with developmental disabilities so I learned from an early age about patience, inclusion, and acceptance of people who are different.

This is a period of change for our family. My wife's great federal job at a small HHS agency was eliminated last year in the Trump administration’s DOGE days. It was our family’s main income. I mostly managed the kids/household and did some litigation support work on the side. So now we find ourselves in middle age going through a career pivot.

My solo firm is just starting up. The primary focus is estate planning for low-to-moderate wealth clients in Maryland and DC, but I will also be offering consulting for homeowners dealing with abusive HOA or condo boards.

I chose estate planning because it is a form of preventative care. With the right strategy I can help my clients create a clear roadmap that allows their family to avoid probate headaches and keep more of their hard-earned wealth. There are a lot of people that need that kind of help so I should have enough work to make up for what my family has lost.

There’s also life that happens outside the struggle. I’ve been married for over 20 years and have two boys. By September, they’ll both be teenagers. Yikes – no, they’re fine. They stay out of trouble, but are just a bit messy. My oldest is learning to drive and my youngest is getting good at pickleball.

I’m a baseball and football fan. The O’s, Nats, Ravens, and Commanders are my favorites. I was at Camden Yards the day Griffey hit the Warehouse and was there with my son when the O’s clinched the division in 2023 (a peak dad moment).

I enjoy distance running to help take care of my health. There’s three marathons on my record with several muddy obstacle course races. I’m trying to take my boys on longer hikes. Maybe we can try a backpacking trip someday. Trekking the Maryland section of the Appalachian Trail would be a nice challenge we could accomplish together. I once competed in a minor league version of Survivor. I helped establish our neighborhood trivia team, the Tanterrors. I’ve performed open-mic standup comedy three times so far. I’m working on a new set for fall 2026 (I never talk about real clients; fake ones are more interesting).

I got my first pair of bifocals last year. Now I can read all of the terrible news on my phone without taking my glasses off. Lovely.  I seem to be running out of “about me” items. Let’s move on.

Back to professional features. I was an award-winning law student. I graduated from what is now called the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 2002 after serving as Editor-in-Chief of what is now called the University of Maryland Law Journal of Race, Religion, Gender and Class. I wrote several of my own law review articles that are collecting dust in some law libraries across the country. I passed the bar exam on my first try and I am licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
