A retired national security professional, he is in his second career as a small business owner and an independent scholar and writer based in Fairfax, Virginia, who is passionate about telling stories of overlooked episodes in American military history.
In June 2024, he retired from a 40-year career as a national security professional, combining parallel service as a U.S. Army officer for 30 years and as an analyst with the U.S. Intelligence Community for over 20 years.
Over those 40 years, he deployed four times and was privileged to command soldiers in the field during two national contingencies; first, an Army explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) unit during the Persian Gulf War, and later a special troops battalion with soldiers located at 13 sites in Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, and Djibouti.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps Hall of Fame in May 2025.
He has taught future strategic leaders as the DIA Chair at the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy of the National Defense University; future U.S. Intelligence Community leaders at the National Intelligence University; future U.S. Intelligence Community officers at George Mason University; and future Army leaders at the United States Military Academy.
When not writing or serving his various communities, he enjoys traveling with his wife and riding his bicycle.
