Oversaw team comprised of attorneys and paralegals at the Antitrust Division that secured their first guilty pleas by financial institutions to criminal charges in the Department’s ongoing investigation into collusion affecting foreign exchange markets. The financial institutions that pled guilty are four of the largest financial institutions in the world: Citicorp, JPMorgan Chase, The Royal Bank of Scotland and Barclays. Each of these financial institutions pled guilty to a Sherman Act charge for price fixing and bid rigging in the spot market for trading U.S. dollars and euros. In light of the seriousness of the crimes and the unjustified benefit to the bottom lines of these banks, the Department demanded parent-level guilty pleas, secured record fines exceeding $2.5 billion and insisted upon three years of court-supervised probation.
