About

Konrad Vesey has over 25 years of deep, practical experience in the fields of cybersecurity, privacy, cryptography, and artificial intelligence. He received his Master of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Maryland at College Park. While in graduate school, he enjoyed programming and studying the history and philosophy of science as secondary interests.

He began his career as a Cryptologic Mathematician at the National Security Agency where he worked on securing the nation’s critical defense and industrial systems. He then applies his mathematics background to software and systems security as a Global Network Exploitation and Vulnerability Analyst. In this role, Mr. Vesey led teams that developed novel tools and techniques for vulnerability analysis and delivered technical reports and guidance for securing systems. His expertise was recognized by twice receiving the Daedalus Award from the Director of the NSA, given for “the most significant technical accomplishment in computer network defense” in the years 2004, and again in 2007. At NSA, Mr. Vesey served as the Director of the Center for Assured Software, responsible for promulgating guidance on secure development and evaluation best practices to Department of Defense systems acquisition offices.

Mr. Vesey helped develop the concept for the STONESOUP program at the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) and became the Program Manager for this significant initiative involving leading researchers at the nation’s most respected universities. While at IARPA, Mr. Vesey also managed the APP and SPAR programs that developed efficient and innovative cryptographic protocols for protecting private data in databases. These programs involved some of the world’s leading cryptographers.

From government service, Mr. Vesey joined MIT Lincoln Laboratory where he developed innovative languages and test strategies for evaluating autonomous systems. At MIT LL, he authored the section on Moving Target Defense for NIST’s Technical Report to the White House on “Dramatically Reducing Software Vulnerabilities.” Mr. Vesey supported the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering as a cybersecurity and privacy subject matter expert, provide technical review and input on federal research priorities and strategic plans.

At CACI International, Mr. Vesey provided technical and programmatic expertise as a Chief Technologist for the Advance Cyber Science division. In this capacity, he managed the cybersecurity, privacy, and artificial intelligence component of CACI’s internal research and development portfolio.

When Konrad is not keeping up to date on the state of the art in cybersecurity, privacy, and artificial intelligence, he likes to code personal projects in C#, C, or C++. He is an avid reader and is working hard on his first novel, an historical fantasy set in early Kamakura-period Japan (circa 1200). He has managed, produced, and mixed songs for his son’s musical career, and has mixed house audio and visual media for live church performances for several years. His fine art endeavors as a high school student have won national accolades. A collegiate cross-county runner, he has run two marathons. He enjoys hiking in the mountains and has rock climbed up and down the East Coast. He currently lives in Maryland with his wife and youngest son.
