Hi! I'm Wasamon Audjarint, a multimedia journalist. After almost a decade of reporting across the globe, I recently graduated with MA, Politics from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism with merit scholarship in May 2025.
My most recent full-time employer is Voice of America (VOA), the largest U.S. international broadcaster in Washington, D.C., where I worked after having covered Southeast Asia from Bangkok, Thailand, for five years. I covered stories from Thailand-Cambodia border conflicts, the shifting media landscape in Myanmar under then-civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi, democratic challenges under the Thai military junta, non-profit networks behind the rescue of Thai sex trafficking victims in the U.S., to the journey of a Thai-Ukrainian LGBTQ+ couple as they fled from Ukraine when the war broke out, and beyond. My 9,800-word, long-form report thesis at Columbia focused on the plights of Thai political refugees in Paris, France, and elsewhere.
My subject matter expertise includes, but is not limited to, Thai diaspora in the U.S. and overseas, the U.S. social issues, Thai politics and foreign policy, Southeast Asian affairs, press freedom, and human rights.
Versatility is my power. I can do things from reporting in English and Thai, running radio-on-tv live production, coding R for political analytics, managing far-reaching social media in an international setting, co-hosting podcasts, to creating infographics. I also have experience in newspapers, public diplomacy, and being an assistant reporter/fixer.
My reports have been published in VOA, The Associated Press, The Nation (Thailand), The Jakarta Post, The Korea Herald, The Statesman (India), The Star (Malaysia), and The Kathmandu Post. I am also a foreign affairs committee member of the Thai Journalists Association in Bangkok, to which I provide advice on external relations building virtually from my base in the U.S.
I am a Thai citizen and a U.S. permanent resident with unrestricted work authorization in both countries.
