For the past 34 years, I have served the United States’ tax administration system, working as a federal employee with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). My career has encompassed a diverse range of technical and management experiences.
I began my journey with the IRS as an Internal Revenue Agent, where I examined individual and business tax returns within the Small Business/Self-Employed division and later within the Large Business & International division. I conducted examinations independently and as a team member on large team audits. I progressed through the ranks, taking on various temporary assignments and permanent positions. These assignments and positions are highlighted below.
I formerly held the position as a Senior Program Analyst in the Small Business & Self-Employed division of the headquarters office. The headquarters office is responsible for developing and implementing policies and standards for the entire division, implementing new tax laws mandated by Congress, and other responsibilities. Working in headquarters is a fast-paced environment with almost daily time-sensitive projects and deadlines. My leadership skills, attention to detail, and collaborative attitude have allowed me to take on increasing responsibilities over the years. I have received outstanding performance awards for successfully managing all programs and projects under my responsibility.
As an analyst, my primary responsibilities include leading multiple high-level programs simultaneously as a subject-matter expert. For example, I have led the audit technique guide program, compliance programs covering real estate, farming, and entertainment industries, canceled debt income, tangible property, and limitation on business interest expense issues. Additionally, I have been responsible for leading or co-leading tax implementation efforts for various federal tax law legislation provisions passed by Congress that have different effective dates. Meeting deadlines is crucial when implementing new or revised tax law, as mandated by Congress.
I was competitively selected for a temporary assignment from January 2023 through May 2025 as a Senior Manager responsible for activities performed by Senior Program Analysts involved with tax implementation efforts of new tax law and a resource knowledge database. I also spearheaded the audit technique guide program and training for new analysts. I held daily collaborative meetings with my team for status updates and to mitigate solutions to issues. I addressed issues and found solutions through collaboration across the IRS and external stakeholders. I also led informational and training webinars delivered to external stakeholders.
As a Supervisory Internal Revenue Agent from 2003 through 2012, I oversaw and guided the work of Internal Revenue Agents and worked on short-term managerial assignments in other IRS offices and improvement projects.
